Fund Controller

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Finance & Tax, the Fund Controller will be responsible for the daily and monthly/quarterly activities related to the firms hedge fund and private equity funds. The role will be responsible for owning several key accounting and reporting functions within the firm, including fund accounting, financial reporting, management company operations and ad-hoc special projects. The Fund Controller is a strategic partner tasked with engineering and driving projects that will create more efficiency across the business through a collaborative approach, while ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of our fund accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute all daily and monthly activities related to finance and hedge fund operations including, position and P&L reconciliations with the fund’s prime brokers and administrator and manages resolution of trade breaks,  Security setup, trade entry, and communication of daily trades to prime broker and administrator, daily pricing of the fund’s portfolio.
  • Manage relationships with the audit firms and the annual year-end audit process for all the funds.
  • Review of the monthly (and quarterly for private equity funds) NAV packages prepared by the fund’s administrator including management fee, performance fee and operating expenses and ensure timely delivery of investor statements.
  • Work closely with the Legal and Compliance to execute various regulatory filings (e.g. SEC Form PF, 13D, 13F, 13G, 13H and Blue-Sky filings).
  • Responsible for the oversight and accuracy of all public and private financial data generated for fund administrators, auditors, & client reporting.
  • Support management company accounting activities including monthly close, journal entries, expense allocations, and financial statement preparation for internal reporting.
  • Manage employee reimbursements and vendor invoicing for the management company in partnership with internal teams ensuring compliance and cost discipline.
  • Design and execute a strategy to drive enhancements to accounting processes, ensuring the team has the systems, technology, & resources to achieve operational excellence.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of public accounting, operations, and/or hedge fund accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hedge fund accounting principles that supports a growing portfolio.
  • Experience in operating company or management company accounting within a fund or financial services environment, with a demonstrated ability to manage full-cycle accounting and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting standards as they apply to corporate entities, including experience with general ledger maintenance, cash flow forecasting, and coordination of tax filings.
  • Previous experience implementing financial operations and reporting processes with an efficiency mindset.
  • Strong EQ, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and manage relationships with Operations, Research, and Investor Relations teams.
  • Analytical and data-driven, with a track record of building and executing strategies with a measured approach.
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring finance professionals, providing feedback and mentorship to help the team achieve a high degree of success.
